Gosh, they’ve overdone it
More “green” opportunism from the tellingly named Gosh PR, a company charged with selling Brighton to tourists. In an email it says: “According to Lonely Planet’s recent Pulse Survey, travellers worldwide are boycotting flying with 70% opting to travel in a ‘low impact way’ by catching a bus or train. Forget Europe and help to reduce carbon emissions by enjoying an environmentally friendly weekend break in Brighton this summer.”
Travellers are boycotting flying? Really? Then surely all those protestors camping out at Heathrow and threatening to disrupt flights are fighting a battle they’ve already won…
What the Lonely Planet survey, published last week, actually found wasn’t quite so exciting. It was that “70% of travellers said they had purposefully travelled in a low-impact way in the past (for example catching a bus rather than flying) and over 90% of people said they would or might do so in the future”.
